Before you begin to wonder...yes, this is the Tracy Chapman penned and performed 1988 hit. It's also Kristian Leontiou's fourth single and his first step into 'cover' territory.
Revamping such a famous (and brilliant) song is either very brave or Darwin Award stupid. Either way, Leontiou's played it safe - the kiddie stabilisers firmly on - by remaining comparatively loyal to the original. (The Scissor Sisters' version of Comfortably Numb this is not.) It's sound is 'fuller', the guitar line doubled-up on the piano beautifully, but unfortunately it lacks the emotional intensity and soul of Chapman's original.
Leontiou hasn't done a bad job and his version certainly won't offend. But with no new take to the song, why not just listen to the original?
