Owners of KT's last single Black Horse And The Cherry Tree will find Other Side Of The World something of a shock. The feisty Scottish songstress dispenses with sequenced samples of her rough-hewn guitar work here, opting instead for a polished, nearly languid radio-friendly ballad.

The song itself is for sure a surprise - gone is the inventive edge that marked out Black Horse as such a standout, to be replaced by an altogether more MOR feel - but even more of a shock is her voice. To this middling background, she sounds for all the world like Dido. And she'll hate me for saying that.

Other Side does at least demonstrate KT's songwriting range, and it's an inoffensive listen (you couldn't say that about Dido), but there are far better tracks on her excellent album Eye To The Telescope than this.
