Is Kym Marsh manufactured trash or genuine musical talent? The debate is endless and no matter what she releases the plague of being guilty by association with Pop Idol will no doubt haunt her for a long time yet.
Sentimental is a competent song with Kym's strong vocals meeting a "rock" backing. That is to say "rock" in the Busted sense - there's a hint of a riff plonked somewhere in the track. Based solely on this release Kym Marsh could be a grown up Avril Lavigne; in fact, there's a strange resemblance to the song My World in Sentimental.
Does Sentimental give any insight into my original question? Well, even Louise has toyed with a rock-chic flavour, so not really. That is until you listen to the dance mix on the B-side. It screams, "Let's tap into any market that might boost our sales," and the sad thing is that the strategy might just work.
