This teenage rapper has been stirring things up on the underground 'grime' scene for about a year now, and 9 To 5 is her major label debut. With adverts for mobile ringtones plastered all over the single sleeve, it would be easy to accuse the Lady of selling out.
Cleverly though, 9 To 5 sees Lady Sovereign fretting over going mainstream - balancing such horrors as posing for FHM "in a bikini next to a Lamborghini" or becoming a CBeebies presenter with going back to a '9 to 5' day job. The lyrics are hilarious, with mention of "Channel U, the ones who made me huge, like Katie Price's boobs". Why, she even gets away with saying she's "getting pissed like Pampers" which you have to love her for.
Even better is the Ordinary Boys remix included on the CD, with guest vocals from Preston himself. Catchy, funny and original, Lady Sovereign is likely to 'do a Dizzee' very soon indeed.
