Canadian three-piece and blog writer's faves Land of Talk release their new single to co-incide with their current crop of UK dates.
Signed to the One Little Indian label, Young Bridge sees them in more 'rock out' vogue, with the searing melodies recalling obvious comparisons to fellow Canadians Arcade Fire and Metric while the dreamy vocals of Elizabeth Powell recall an angrier, slightly more desperate Harriet Wheeler.
An interesting mix, but ultimately not one with any conviction. The sludgy, lazy vocals result in the listener being as disinterested as much as Powell seems to be. The track is desperately crying out for a chorus, and Powell's constant pleas of "I need you" sound more in tune with a Sunday hangover than any tale of love lost. Any promise of some further development is stripped from us at the abrupt ending just 180 seconds in.
Lazy, spectacularly unoriginal and ultimately, forgettable.
