I am vaguely aware of Leann Rimes, much like I am vaguely aware of the fact Paul McCartney is having marriage problems. I hear these things but have no interest in them. I know Leann had a hit on the back of some godawful romantic comedy and that she dueted with Ireland master of mush Ronan Keating. For some unknown reason I also thought that Leann was a country music star. I think she lives in Nashville but you'd never guess that from And It Feels Like.
I heard loads of country music growing up - my Mum and Dad were big fans - but this has little or nothing to do with the Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton or Don Williams that I heard. No, this is the sound of middle America rocking out. That's the kind of rocking out that Cliff Richard or Tom Jones may believe is cutting edge. This is so far removed from my usual listening habits it's like getting George W. Bush to explain the offside rule.
It has shades of Kelly Clarkson but without that soaring voice or the side order of angst. The guitars and drums attempt to rustle up a storm but it feels like a ruse. Not for me, and I am doubtful its going to impress you either.
