No one does bright and breezy better than the Lemon Jelly boys. Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen return with this, the third single from the suitably well received '64-'95, and seem intent on out-doing even themselves in the light and carefree chillout stakes. As with each track on the album, Make Things Right is built around a single, central sample and this time a vocal from Terri Walker's Before You Walk Out Of My Life is used as the centrepiece.
It is a very simple formula which works surprisingly well. Walker's positive lyrics are looped over acoustic guitar, simple, theremin-like electronics and sprightly drums to create one of those moments of pure, laidback bliss the duo excel at. It is backed with A Personal Message From Our Chairman, which fits another familiar 'Jelly-mould with its spoken word sample and gently building orchestration and should please those seeking fresh material.
So what if it is all fluffy, uncomplicated and easy on the ear? Not many bands can bring a smile to your face but Lemon Jelly have made it their vocation, so forget whatever it is you were worrying about and get your ears around this sunny little gem.
