LFO - Freak (Warp)

release date: 30 August 2003
LFO - Freak

It's been almost eight years since Sheffield techno duo Mark Bell and Gez Varley have cut a record. This new comeback single, coming ahead of new album Sheath, is going to make you freak, if the lyrics are to be believed.

If by freak, the boys mean to blast your eardrums with a thumping bass line, constant drum beat and high pitched bleeping noises, then they have certainly achieved their aim. More percussion is deftly added to the mix as the track progresses, and it winds down leaving the listener fully techno-tranced.

It may have been a long time coming, but this new material heralds a return to form for LFO. Techno fans should check this one out, but be careful not to buy anything by the Boston teen pop outfit of the same name. Now that's freaky.
