Often tipped as a British answer to The Strokes, The Libertines show just why they're so highly rated with this slice of damn near perfect guitar pop.

Unlike the '70s US punk retro stylings that The Strokes do so well, there's a definite Anglicised vibe to The Libertines. The guitar work brings to mind early Suede, and Morrissey would be proud of lyrics that mention "diseases in this town" and sneering at "Englishmen in baseball caps". Former Clash man Mick Jones is at the production desk, and succeeds in recreating the raw excitement of his former cohorts.

Time for heroes? In a world filled with manufactured, mechanised pop pap, The Libertines' time has arrived.
