If you've ever wondered what Hot Chip would sound like with a female vocalist, then step this way. Little Boots is a collaboration between the Chip's Joe Goddard and Victoria Hesketh, known to some as the lead singer in Leeds indie band Dead Disco.
Unlike Dead Disco's raucous guitar/synth rock, Little Boots is all squealy electro goodness. Hesketh's vocals are a world away from Alexis Taylor's more laid back voice, and the harsh synths and pounding percussion give the song an urgent quality. There's also a terrific bit near the end where the backing vocals seem to turn into Gregorian chants before kicking back into the disco beat.
At a time when Annie, Lykke Li and Robyn are flying the flag for Scandinavian electro-pop it's good to have a British equivalent.
