The Little Flames are not exactly easy listening. They're signed to the same label as fellow oddballs The Zutons and The Coral and mention being "clean and sanitised" within a minute of this post-punk protest song. We can only assume that 'John' isn't exactly a very liberal kind of guy: 'Change your shoes and change your hair/or your not going anywhere'. For all we know, and judging by their youth, it could even be one of their dads irate that a particular Little Flame is going to catch their death on Merseyside unless they change.

Either way, imagine Gang of Four in a scrap with Siouxsie and the Banshees and you're getting there, low key spiked guitar stabs, plenty of wailing background effect noise, haunting female lead flanked by shouty male imperative. It all comes to a head in a flurry of high pitched guitar notes, three part harmonies and stripped bare drums.

Put your Dukes Up John might not be that polished, or that memorable with everyone having a go at the '80s post-punk sound at the moment, but fear not, there's potential for The Little Flames to get pretty big.
