The Sheffield four piece's fourth single follows the previous three's trend by being an absolute belter.
The title's bound to provoke a few derogatory remarks, but the dazzling pop brilliance of the song makes it immune to any kind of criticism. Whereas Top 30 breakthrough House Party At Boothy's was a boozy, carefree celebration of getting rat-arsed round your mates, this is brimming with seething cynicism. The lyrics may be the sound of rock'n'roll dreams broken by London A&R men, with a tinge of envy at certain other bands' overnight success, but the music is triumphant and lung-burstingly anthemic. Frontman Jon Swindle sings "man I can't stand your band!" with brilliantly bitter glee, to a background of boundless energy and classic hooks last witnessed on Supergrass' debut.
There's nothing better than a band that sounds like a gang ready to take on the world. Little Man Tate's gigs are near-religious experiences, with an incredible atmosphere as their growing crowds of devotees bellow out every word. Catch them on their current tour, before the rock'n'roll dreams turn to reality. 'Cos if there's any justice in the world, these lads are going to be huge.
