The first single to be released from, and the title track to Looper's thrid album, The Snare, finds ex-Belle and Sebastian bassist Stuart David's indie-art project in dark territory.
A simplistic mix of sax, vibraphone and hip-hop-inspired beats provides the backing to David's sinister and mumbling vocals.
Lacking in any real punch or atmosphere, The Snare is at best a uninspired ramble, never threatening to attempt to capture your mind or imagination. After Looper's last outing with the enjoyable and entertaining 'Up A Tree', this is a great disappointment, and does not bode well for the album.
