How come women get all the best break-up songs? While us blokes get to sit at home moping to For No One by The Beatles or Radiohead's Creep when we have our hearts broken, all the girls have to do is grab their nearest gal-pal and a bottle of wine and bellow along to I Will Survive or Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart. S'not fair.
No longer though, for along come Liverpool's The Loungs with their stated intention of making an "I Will Survive for blokes". Ignore the puntastic title and concentrate instead on the glorious mix of handclaps, glockenspiels and trumpets which go to create an utterly joyful song. And then, after a couple of listens, sing along to the wistful refrain of "in the aftermath of war, be sure that I don't love you anymore".
It could sound twee, but the sheer heart-skipping energy of it all can't fail to win a place in all but the most jaded of hearts. So next time lads, when you next get your heart ripped into pieces, grab this song and life will be instantly alright again in just over 2 minutes.
