Lovemat - Between The Lines

buy music

This gloriously dirty, booze-fuelled single is the debut release from north east band Lovemat, and it's not all about rock 'n' roll excess - the lads in the band have an intelligence and musical charm that comes from their upbringing in the banality of provincial vicinities. Not content with the narrow-minded thoughts of lesser minds, they prefer to be different and offer an alternative way of thought - do what the hell you what. Of course, they mean to rock 'n' roll.

Between The Lines is a fantastically harsh, piercing punk-type hard rock song with a clashing of riffs, drums and bass. It's so sleazy and filthy it could have emanated from a neglected public toilet. B-side Lost In The City has a harder sound, leaving deep King Kong-like footprints on the ground. It's covered in graffiti but nonetheless it's an infectious, tough noise.

This is a superb debut indeed, vicious and bloodthirsty but brilliantly alluring. It's an injection of hard rock that's worth the risk.
