This is Madrugada's first release from their acclaimed and increasingly hyped album, Grit, and it's a schizophrenic double A-side.
Majesty is heart-aching and painful. Høyem's deep, sullen vocals weep as simple, mourning acoustic strums play chords that wash over each other, swelling to a beautiful, mild symphonic ending. If Majesty is black however, Seven Seconds is white, the antithesis to Majesty. Swapping acoustic for electric, and featuring a fast, pulsating rhythm, Seven Seconds is all together more upbeat. Høyem too, appears to have been woken from despondency as his vocals spring to life, swapping sullen for seemingly enraged.
Majesty / Seven Seconds is a fine demonstration of Madrugada's talent, albeit a little brave as neither songs are particularly airplay-able, but that seems a worthy compromise to sounding original. Interestingly, Madrugada at times sound not unlike their fellow countrymen Emmerhoff. They seem poised for domination.
