The name Malibu Stacey might evoke images of Lisa Simpson's Barbie-equivalent, but after hearing Invasion, the band's debut single, it will instead denote a damn fine punk rock band. But, as vocalist Jonny Wilson energetically demands, “Who the f*** are Malibu Stacey?”
Well, behind the Malibu wheel is none other than ex-Terrorvision bassist Leigh Marklew, who's swapped the pop-rock synonymous with the Bradford chart toppers for punky, loud, frantic, power metal clout. And it's good. An FX wah-wah starts Invasion before all hell breaks loose, racing through the song in a torrent of drums and thrashing guitars, indicative of Green Day and the likes.
Invasion makes you want to turn up the volume to disturb the neighbours and, whereas the sound is nothing new, it's got more rock than a Blackpool sweet shop.
