The Hallé and BBC Philharmonic can rest easy. The Manchester Orchestra aren't about to storm the Bridgewater Hall and break their violins, for they hail from Atlanta, Georgia.

However you may well be hearing more of them in the near future as their star is on the rise, and tracks like Wolves At Night belie their average age of nineteen with a full-bodied guitar sound. Andy Hull's year of home schooling to record the Manchester Orchestra's debut album seems to have paid off, and his slightly nasal tones lend the music a distinctive edge, not to mention emotional depth.

Softer B-side Sacred Heart shows the quintet in a new light, Hull's murmuring vocal set against soft guitar arpeggios. With the band appearing at the Reading festival at the end of the month, they should make quite an impact when these heartfelt songs transfer to the stage.
