Marc Carroll - A Way Back Out Of Here (Evangeline)
UK release date: 9 May 2005
Marc Carroll - A Way Back Out Of Here

Marc Carroll, despite his resemblance to Cain Dingle from Emmerdale on the front cover of this single, is actually a singer/songwriter on his second album who counts none other than Bob Dylan amongst his fans.

A Way Back Out Of Here is undeniably lovely, with tinkly piano, a sweeping string section and Carroll's strong vocals all blending to create an atmospheric ballad. It's easier to see what Dylan sees in him - in fact, his voice here is reminiscent of Mr Zimmerman.

The only trouble is that there's nothing here to distinguish it from the other raft of slightly earnest singer/songwriters. With James Blunt, Tom Baxter and Stephen Fretwell amongst other all jockeying for position in the race to be the 'new David Grey', Carroll may have to raise his game to get noticed.
