Mario's last single, Let Me Love You, was a genuinely classy R&B ballad that was difficult to escape from for a few months. The Baltimore singer brought to mind smooth soul artists such as Luther Vandross and Alexander O'Neal, and provided a rival to fellow young soul star Usher.
It's a pity then that Here I Go Again is so ordinary. It's more upbeat than its predecessor, with strings added to the mix, and it's hard to deny that the chorus is rather infectious. The trouble is that it's all been done before - this is pretty generic R&B pop.
Obviously, being generic has never stopped something being successful, and Mario fans will be sure to rush out to buy this. It's just a shame that the follow up to such a great song is so utterly average.
