And for his next trick, producer extraordinaire Mark Ronson will present for your pleasure an album of 12 cover versions, of which the first taste you'll get is this reworking of the classic Smiths track Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before. Which, you have to admit, shows a pretty good sense of humour for a covers album choice.

So too, really, does discoing up The Smiths. It's a bloody travesty of course, and Morrissey would no doubt hate the idea of someone who's previously worked with Christina Aguilera and Robbie Williams getting their hands on his wares but in a mad way it works. Electronic, cheery and danceable, it's really not half bad. Splicing it with odd bits of The Supremes' You Keep Me Hanging On is, however, just mad.

The single comes with not one but five reinterpretations of the track - the 'Original' (no it's not, you twonk, that's the one by Morrissey, Marr et al), Chicken Lips remix, Chicken Lips remix dub, Dirty South remix and Dirty South remix dub. All are interesting and pointless in equal measure with Chicken Lips remix dub probably the best of the bunch. An interesting experiment but ultimately one for the completists. Of which, of course, Morrissey has thousands. So, clever move then, Marky boy.
