Martina Topley-Bird - Anything
Martina Topley-Bird made her (admittedly chortle-worthy) name singing for Tricky and she has already achieved something he did by having her debut album, Quixotic, nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

This single, whose release has obviously not been commercially timed to match the week of the awards ceremony (splutter), is, quite simply, gorgeous. Martina, or Bird, as it's much more fun to refer to her as, is blessed with a voice that is aching, heartfelt and possesses a soupçon of rawness that makes it even more endearing.

The track itself is a winsome ballad with deft touches of acoustic guitar, background strings and gentle, programmed drum beats, as Bird woos her lover with the melting couplet of, "I don't want anything but you. I don't need anything but you." Proof that sometimes simplicity really is the key to beauty.
