M.A.S.S. are all very well, but when debut single Hey Gravity sounds like a tribute to The Hives, albeit with a female vocalist and less raw energy, one wonders how seriously they'll be taken.
The b-sides are more of the same, with a gradually diminishing tempo. They just manage to stay on the pop side of punk, with the odd little quirk seemingly thrown in deliberately here and there. It's all competently executed and undoubtedly a good showcase for an undoubtedly talented foursome.
But jangle-jangle go the guitars, bash-bash go the drums. They're undoubtedly rather good live. It's just a shame they don't sound more edgy and original on record.
