Continuing the cull from their eminently listenable A Certain Trigger LP, Maximo Park are bounding from strength to strength with their latest release I Want You To Stay.
Their winning formula is intact: Paul Smith's distinctive vocal; some fiddly synth work; serrated guitar stabs; and that subtle current of sadness that runs throughout their material. "I long for the neon signs of night, cuz nothing works round here," Smith resonates, and you'd bet your life on his sincerity.
Fresh from headlining an outrageously successful NME tour, I Want You To Stay is to be unleashed on the soundwaves at the most opportune time for Maximo: strike while the iron is hot and a stitch in time will save too many cooks - or words to that effect. This always was, after all, one of the album's most thrilling moments.
