We really need to create a moratorium on dull band names, starting with any group whose front person uses his or her surname as a moniker. Oh, with the obvious exception of Goldfrapp - with a name like that you’d be doing the world a disservice if you weren't in a band. Yeah, first we'll rid the world of them, then we'll go after Keane.

Not that this is the light of a magnificent song hiding under the bushel of a crap name. Nope, this is shite all the way. But if McAlister were called Seventeen Badgers Jumping Cottage Gates In Orange Waders, it'd probably be an improvement. At the very least it would give us something to talk about.

Because aside from noting that Shine is vaguely unpleasant MOR soft-rock tosh, pre-packaged for the drivetime commute and complete with half-arsed U2 chorus, there's very little else to say. It's not bad enough to warrant a particularly harsh slagging off, it just exists in a world of low-key crapiness that makes it impossible to get worked up about. Shine is musical naval lint: you know it exists, but you struggle to care.
