After being signed to the same label as pop pals Busted, McFly were bound to be compared. Both groups consist of aesthetically pleasing, young men although McFly at least have a full-time drummer.
After two hit singles and a number one album, McFly release That Girl, a song about being so close to getting the girl of your dreams but just not close enough (what an "original" topic).
Pre-judgements aside, McFly have managed to deliver a slab of Beach Boys-inspired, '60s surfer pop rock that never fails to glue itself inside your head. That Girl, although devastatingly cheesy in lyrics - "There was this girl / She looked so fine / And she blew my mind" - will of course chart high. At least McFly can say that they are educating youngsters on the joys of the '60s pop, as well as giving them something pretty to look at.
