If I were one of the fat-cat record executives at Wandering Star, I would be entirely skeptical about releasing records by a band with a name as terrible as Meeky Rosie. However, I would be mighty enthusiastic about their music.
The band's debut single release, Forever, begins with simple, gently strummed guitar and evolves into an atmospheric beast reminiscent of Mogwai. Glacial effects and wailing vocals about the afterlife might indicate that they live a snowballs throw from Sigur Ros in Iceland, but in fact Meeky Rosie are from Plymouth, UK. This is real, home grown talent. These are five guys with instrumental ambition and an ability to create music that is the definition of epic.
Meeky Rosie have recruited Max Heyes (Doves) on production and Chris Potter (U2) to mix which has doubtless added considerably to the excellence of this single. Such promising musicianship and great back-room staff leads me to believe that (even with that unutterably crap name) no one should bet against Meeky Rosie becoming a really sensational band in the years to come
