With Emma Bunton apparently giving up music and the erstwhile Posh, Scary and Ginger residing in a bizarre post-fame purgatory in the gossip magazines, it appears it's left to Melanie Chisholm to carry the Spice Girls flame in the music world.

And if this is any indication, she'll soon be joining her old friends in the bargain bins. A cover version is a questionable vehicle to stage a comeback with anyway, a dreadful cover version of a not particularly great song in the first place is testament to signing your own career suicide note. Any little fun or wit that the Bow Wow Wow original may have had is systematically stripped away by the producers, leaving a processed horn section, a feeble guitar riff and, worst of all, Chisholm sounding bored and listless as she recites the lyrics.

It's all a bit sad to be honest. No matter what you thought of them musically, the Spice Girls were iconic figures who brought a bit of fun back into pop music. To see one of them reduced to trying to flog a piss-poor Carmen Electra film (this is on the soundtrack) is depressing in the extreme.
