Danish band Mew have already garnered some ecstatic critical notices, but remain largely ignored by the record buying public. They're willfully eccentric, they have bloody awful taste in record sleeves, but as Why Are You Looking Grave proves, they're also absolutely magnificent.

One of two tracks on last year's And The Glass Handed Kites album to feature grunge legend J Mascis, this is a powerfully emotional, intensely uplifting song which sounds like the Arcade Fire duetting with Sigur Ros. Mascis' typically languid vocals provide a perfect counterpoint to Jonas Bjerre's higher, sweeter voice.

It's a superb track, and comes complete with a whole host of remixes by the likes of Mogwai. Of these, the most effective is the Kissing Hoodie mix, which transforms the song into a fragile acoustic ditty which the late Elliott Smith would be proud of. Now if only they could sort out those record sleeves...
