Micachu is the songwriter Mica Levi, barely out of her teens but already of sufficient standing to be able to call on none other than Matthew Herbert for production duties.
That doesn't make her the new Dani Siciliano, but it does mean there's some mighty strange sounds going on in the background, chief of which is what sounds like a teaspoon drilling into a draining board. That's not a criticism, mind, merely an observation on Herbert's talent for securing a truly unique sound.
He does so without compromising on the ability of Micachu, who has a warmth in the lower range of her voice in the verse to complement the softly cooed chorus. It's an oddly endearing song that works a treat as a piece of pure leftfield pop, and together with two inventive B-sides, Worst Bastard and What For, bodes well for the upcoming long player.
