The Mike Rosenberg Band may sound like one of those American artists who are huge over the pond but unknown here such as Dave Matthews, but Rosenberg is actually a 21 year old songwriter from Brighton. He's going pretty squarely towards the David Gray/Damien Rice end of the market, which is a pretty crowded area to break into.
Stray Dog is professionally played, nicely sung (although Rosenberg does come periously close to James Blunt's falsetto at times) and has some thoughtful lyrics about loneliness and unrequited love. The trouble is that there's nothing much to distinguish it from all the other 'sensitive singer/songwriter' stuff out there.
You wouldn't switch it off if it came on the radio, but equally it's hard to imagine anyone getting excited about Stray Dog and rushing out to buy it. It's just....there, which is probably both the nicest and the most damning thing you can say about it.
