Taken from the gorgeous Five Roses album, Poetaster finds Graham Pelt's Montreal outfit at their most wistful.
Pelt is a huge Brian Wilson fan, and his influence inevitably comes towards the surface, and Pelt's voice has a lovely falsetto that carries this track above its velvety accompaniment, the slow tread of the bass drum, the softly strummed guitars and the lightly pyschedelic electronic trimmings. The lyrics, however, betray a vulnerability - "I'm in no shape to share my point of view" he sings softly, "maybe failing's the best I can do".
There is an inner resolve, however that gives this song a strength in depth, and if you haven't yet heard the album then this stately Indian summer track ought to draw you in.
