Just when you thought the summer was rapidly disappearing from beneath our toes, a band from Watford called Mohair have arrived to dismiss any such thoughts. Stranded (In The Middle Of Nowhere) is a three and a half minute slice of sunshine pop that exudes a jubilant and carefree nature that we've come to associate with bands like The Polyphonic Spree and The Thrills.

So even if you haven't heard anything by them before, you probably already have. This single is an quirky, upbeat take on the standard Neil Young template - jaunty piano, nasal vocals, that kind of thing - that's been popularised by every man and his dog over the last few years. Not to say that Mohair do it particularly badly, just rather unspectacularly.

A couple of listens will put a smile on your face and have you reaching for a cold beer, but any more and it'll start to grate heavily - especially as it begins to sound more like the Postman Pat theme tune every time you listen to it. Nevertheless there's a versatility displayed on the much rockier B-side, Everything I Want, to suggest a promising enough future.
