Morrissey - First Of The Gang To Die
First Of The Gang To Die, the second single from the highly acclaimed album You Are The Quarry, is vintage Mozza and a sure-fire winner.

He pulls out all the stops with this upbeat melodic track that revisits his love of gangster imagery (First Of The International Playboys), where "Hector was the first of the gang with a gun in his hand, and the first to do time, the first of the gang to die". Trademark wry lyrics are peppered with evocative urban poetry such as “You have never been in love / until you have seen the stars / reflect in the reservoirs."

The B-side is a lulling self-absorbed ode to melancholy where the first two lines are the title, My Life Is A Succession Of People Saying Goodbye. Serious reflections meander among echoey whispers and a stunning plucked harp. A complete contrast to the A-side but a gem all the same.
