Múm - They Made Frogs Smoke 'Til They Exploded (Fat Cat)
UK release date:27 August 2007
There is something very special about Icelandic band, Mùm. Like fellow Icelanders Bjork and Sigur Rós, Mùm's music possesses an otherworldly, ethereal feel, mixed with a child-like fragility that is captivating.
They Make Frogs Smoke Til They Exploded is the new single off Mùm's upcoming album Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy, and despite losing Kristín Valtýsdóttir's distinctive vocals from the lineup, the single is still quintessential Mùm. Melodic with childish sing along vocals and an array of instruments (ranging from synths to harmonica), the song is enriched through the use of eclectic sounds from home films, East European documentaries and old cartoons.
Worth a look is the accompanying, creepy, video by Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir. Filled with butterflies and children's smiling faces (that are mutated and then torn apart), it adds another element, only vaguely suggested in the music, to the ambient electronica Mùm-created kiddieland.
