There's a name that brings back a few memories. When I were a nipper, we all hid behind the sofa when the Thundercats bad guy lit up the screen with his blue hued flesh encased in what can only be described as low quality bog-roll. That was 1983 though, and Thundercats was very poor indeed, so these days the only Mumm-Ra likely to appear on your screens is this hotly tipped bunch. Will there still be a need to hide behind the sofa though? That is the question.

Well, no. Hiding won't be required. On the other hand you'll hardly be jumping up and down on it like a well lubricated Tom Cruise on a pogo stick either. Out Of The Question is a very assured 'indie' sounding single indeed. Loud guitars kick the track off in suitable fashion, before giving way to the obligatory gently picked riff, and the vocals of Oli Jones.

Jones is distinctive to say the least. He sounds impossibly young, as if he should be collecting action figures rather than naming his band after them. Still that's no bad thing. He can hold a melody, and the attention of the listener. Even better: he doesn't really sound like anyone else at the moment. That's more than can be said for this song, however. It would happily fit in alongside so many other bands trying their luck with this sound. So, as guitars chime and loop around each other as the song builds to a rather predictable climax, we settle in to the sofa, sip a cup of herbal tea (the pubs aren't open yet) and congratulate Mumm-Ra on a song that indicates some potential, but leaves us feeling slightly disappointed.
