On first hearing the sedate opening bars of Butterflies and Hurricanes, you know instinctively it's just a simmering calm before the crash of Muse's rock opera melodrama. The theatrical British rock band don't disappoint. In seconds you're listening to a whirlwind of energy that soars with theatrical grandeur and whizzes like the soundtrack to sky-diving.

With soft electronic synths combined with neo-gothic violins and a piano concerto interlude, the track mixes futuristic vision with classical high drama. Surprisingly, there is only a hint of a Matt Bellamy falsetto and you'll be hard-pressed to hear a guitar.

Taken from their number one album Absolution, this latest single is an epic stunner packed with studio wizardry and melodic grace. It's another reminder that Muse is one of the best and most talented bands in Britain today.
