Being described as 'the new Radiohead' can do funny things to a group. Radiohead themselves of course retreated into electronica noodling, Coldplay embraced their commercial side and became one of the biggest bands in the world while Travis....wait, what on earth did happen to Travis?
Muse, another beneficiary of that dubious comparison when they first came on the scene, have reacted by becoming ever more epic and bombastic. Knights Of Cydonia is their most ambitious moment yet, an enormously huge-sounding anthem with galloping drums, truly awe-inspiring guitar work from Matt Bellamy, and an intensely exhilarating feel that's already made it feel like a Muse classic over the last few months.
True, any other band who could sing with a totally straight face "you and I must fight for our rights, you and I must fight to survive" would face arrest by the pretentiousness police, but this is Muse - the band that can touch places that other bands fear to tread.
