Mutiny feat Sweetie Irie - Dem Girls (Underwater)

release date: 26 July 2004
Mutiny - Dem Girls

As soon as Sweetie Irie (not his real name) says that this one is going out for the girls, it's pretty obvious what kinda territory Dem Girls is going to explore. That's right, Dem Girls is DJ-types Mutiny's bigging-up of Post-Feminist Literature queenpins, namely Germaine Greer, Fay Weldon and Anais Nin.

Had you going for a minute there. Actually, Dem Girls is a surprisingly tame bit of Housed-up Ragga, courtesy of Darren Emerson's often ace Underwater label. When it kicked off I was hoping for some really filthy stuff about waist-winding and so forth, but alas it was not to be.

Sweetie Irie really is a bit of a sweetie. He spends much of Dem Girls telling the object of his attention that she's "gorgeous", "so stunning" and "well selected". Well selected, eh? We've all used that one, mate. And I know what dem girls told me.
