With Spring Break just around the corner, it's that magical time of year when half-baked novelty-hop can gain a foothold, with men in suits writing blank cheques for shiny promo vids in which generic frontmen in baggy pants can lose their shirts and point a lot. It's the MVPs, word up yo!
Much akin to the Rednex following up Cotton Eye Joe with Old Pop In An Oak, the Most Valuable Playas have seen fit to re-peddle last year's Roc Ya Body with some slightly different lyrics, just in case it wasn't irritating enough the first time around. Don't worry, though - it's as controversial as ever: "Baby, spend my dough, get your trip on, and never skip on the hydro." Take that, energy conservation campaigns!
Hip hop groups singing about themselves drinking bars dry, dancing until the sun comes up and beating off women with a stick (not literally, one hopes) might be standard fare across the pond - especially for the wonderfully spiritual celebration of Spring Break - but we've come to expect more of the Positiva label over here. Go and sit in the naughty corner, Positiva, and no more Cristal until you come up with a fitting apology.
