Has the sun come out for this record or has the record come out for the sun? Whichever, as summer re-emerges from the grey haze, I can't get enough of My Sad Captains.
True, Captains are making inroads into the mainstream consciousness, but they're doing it with little in the way of condescension, keeping a sharp kind of pop virtue that lends this debut single its lush charm.
Bad Decision parps out of the gates in that memorable Boo Radleys-ish way and snakes around dusty Country back-roads with a sense of wonder that shimmers like silk. It's the sound of modern Americana re-discovering its place within the grounded sentiments of pop, emerging from dredges and skating the cliff edges to the tops of mountains. A hefty combination of subtlety and sentiment, The Captains' debut is pure gold.
