There's not a lot of info to be found on the Mystery Jets, so it's more than just a clever name. As far as I can tell they're headed by "keyboard whiz" Blaine Harrison, hail from the legendary offshore artistic community of Eel Pie Island and have recently supported the likes of Bloc Party and British Sea Power. Score!
On My Feet - the band's first release proper since signing to 679 - would appear to set them aside as a handy, tinkering bunch, comfortable with the odd harmony and more than happy to fiddle with song structures and time signatures every now and again. The single bursts through the door with a skewed, breathless intro, settles down into the armchair of balladeering (not unlike a certain Hawksley Workman) before clambering to its feet once more and stamping on the overdrive pedal.
It's certainly compelling stuff, and just about inventive enough to warrant the Next Big Thing (TM) monicker. Fame, however, is not the name of their game, and I'm sure they'd be happier with tweaking their instruments than contending with the one-eyed albatross of beckoning stardom. Hopefully, anyway, because On My Feet has set the bar high.
