You know there's something not quite right when a CD single contains three versions of its title track, one of which is by Four Tet, and yet after listening to it more times that you can count on one hand, you still can't remember a thing about it.

Ethereal, blah blah. Minimal, blah blah. Yes, it's all of that, and sometimes that can be a good thing, but here it's just a little bit too forgettable, the sort of music you want to put on in the car to lull Granny to sleep. It's not really going to excite or upset anyone.

You could say there's nothing wrong with this, but only if all you want is a record guaranteed not to distract you from filling in your tax return. It's so inoffensive you want to be able to tap your foot along to it but somehow, you lose the will to live before quite getting there.

Kieran Hebden does manage to take things up a notch or two, imposing a more robust house beat over the proceedings but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and when all is said and done, there are much better records out this week than this one. Invest in one of them instead.
