About two seconds into this song, I realised that this was not the same Nelly Furtado who warbled I'm Like A Bird a few years back. You see, she's only gone and re-invented herself as an R&B artist, and do you know something, if she's really clever she might just get away with it too.
Now, I'm not the biggest fan of R&B, I'll admit that now, but I think that's probably due to associating the phrase with the likes of Boyz II Men and R Kelly. Somehow, Nelly Furtado has strode into their territory and come up with a better tune than they ever have at the first attempt. No mean feat, that. She's chucked in some tribal-sounding beats, Timbaland on backing vocals, and the end result is so accomplished it's like the first two albums never happened and she's always been doing this sort of music. I really can't praise it much higher than that.
So there you go, one great song and one pleasantly surprised reviewer. The album Loose is out in June, and if this is anything to go by, it might be worth you checking that out too.
