I was going to say "File beside Dido and forget" but that's a little unfair. Pallot doesn't sound sedated most of the time, and her voice soars on high notes.
However the second release from the reissue of her second album, Fires, sounds like it was commissioned for an advert, or to be played plaintively towards the end of a US TV drama while a series of vignettes underline for us stupid viewers the moral point of the episode.
And the chorus is made up of a rather lazy Sophia/fire rhyme: "Sophia, Sophia, I'm burning like fire", over and over. Then again, it's not a promising name to write with... Sophia, Sophia, I'm stuck in the mire, like a car with a flat tyre, but I'm not a crier, I'm always a trier, you make me perspire with burning for you... Ok, maybe it's better left at "fire" after all. I'm sure all the people that like Joss Stone will lap it up.
