New Buffalo's debut EP is a slow-paced affair of 1950s sci-fi movie effects, cut-back rhythm section and enough samples to make fellow Aussies The Avalanches jealous.
Sally Russell, for New Buffalo is she, clearly loves vintage keyboards, distortion and major sevenths. But what we end up with is something that's not quite a soundtrack, not quite a pop tune and really not quite anything.
And as all five of the tracks run into each other with no breaks, it is quite difficult to work out where one ends and the other begins. Melancholic, odd and dreamy, this is definitely not music to dance to.
