Despite only releasing three albums in his tragically short life, Nick Drake's legend has grown to the point where he can be claimed as the inspiration for a whole range of acoustic-led folksters. Magic is his first ever single, released to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.
Magic was originally intended to be included on Drake's debut album Five Leaves Left, and by the marvels of modern technology it has been cleaned up and presented the way Drake originally intended. It's stark and beautiful, with a truly haunting string section backing Drake's all too fragile voice. The opening line - "I was born to love nobody" - sends a tingle down the spine.
Short, sweet and quite lovely, this is unlikely to be a hit, but is a perfect introduction for those who are curious as to what was so special about this talented, yet tragic, figure.
