Nikola Rachelle - Don't Talk About This Love (AWAL)
UK release date: 30 October 2006
There's usually a reason why singers don't use their last names, and in this case it's because it happens to be Bedingfield. Yes, that's right, Natasha and Daniel's other sibling is launching herself on the record buying public. To be fair, she's not taking the mass market pop approach, and the song itself is only available from iTunes.
The song itself is pretty much from what you'd expect from the solo female plus piano genre. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with it, but you still get the voice in your head telling you that Tori Amos does it so much better. It's also the weakest song on the release, The Man From Venezuela with all its lating rhythms is much better. Although the voices are now shouting Erykah Badu at you.
Nikola is evidently going for a different demographic, with a slightly more jazz/blues/folk/latin flavour - think Radio 2. Unfortunately, if she's wants to get beyond the inevitable knee-jerk reaction of "Ye Gods, not another damn Beddingfield" she's going to have to pull something better out of that hat. Definitely one to watch rather than one to buy.
