The art of whistling in song, much maligned since the days of Roger Whitaker, appears be undergoing something of a rehabilation. Peter Bjorn & John had us all pursing our lips last year with Young Folk, and now Noah & The Whale re-release one of their early tracks which is kicked off by a good bout of whistling.
And that's not all - lightly strummed ukuleles, violins, handclaps and the wonderful Laura Marling on backing vocals all add to the general summery feel. Lead singer Charlie Fink fantasies about the long-term potential of a new relationship, imagining a future set in five years time where the happy couple skip round a zoo admiring the animals. Of course, there's also the undercurrent that it also go horribly wrong: "In five years time, I may not even know you".
Listened to in the wrong frame of mind, it could all become hopelessly sappy and twee, but for now it's the perfect song for these late summer evenings.
