Nylon Rhythm Machine - Chimera

Nylon Rhythm Machine is the pseudonym of guitarist and one-man band Tim Gomersall, who follows up his 2002 debut with the Chimera EP.

The EP opens with the gorgeous acoustic guitar-led Starway To Mars, which evokes comparisons with Lemon Jelly, adding vocoders and snatches of brass to make a glorious whole. The closing track The Holy Mountain is another blissful guitar and piano based affair couple with a spiritual narrative.

The two other tracks are of an altogether darker nature. Agent Orange is murky electronica with an insistent beat and war themed samples. Venom weaves a piano motif with a twisting bass and soaring atmospheric synths to unsettling effect. The definition of Chimera is a mythical hybrid creature - with its impressive mix of different styles, this EP certainly lives up to its name.
